My name is James Shepherd and I am an experienced digital media and content manager - editing, maintaining and developing media websites, blogs and forums.
I'm responsible for increasing traffic and engagement through the development and delivery of a digital strategy encompassing content management, SEO, development of new (editorial and commercial) platforms and constant improvement of the user experience.
I have a sound knowledge of SEO, content management systems, html, all editorial disciplines, web analytics and project management to Prince2 methods.
I work closely with directors to optimise the monetisation of our online offerings.
This includes websites, mini-sites, blogs, audio and video content, the latest internet applications, community groups and trafficked adverts in a manner which will increase revenues from online.
Central to this is identifying bespoke online opportunities for key advertisers and managing the process through to launch.
I am constantly monitoring and applying new technologies and web applications, analysing competition and our own performance (including with Omniture) to achieve optimum results.
My skills as a digital strategist is backed up with my project management experience.
I am highly proficient in all aspects of SEO from identifying keywords and their use on and off-page, social media campaigns, use of verticals, linking, analysing traffic and ethics.
The media sites I manage are now among the most competitive in the region, reflected in our excellent page equity. From our users this has manifested in a high level of brand loyalty.
My sites have grown by more than 300% in the last 18 months the majority of which is down to the hands-on SEO work done by myself. All on-page SEO of site structure (metadata) has given us a fantastic platform on which solid content optimisation (web headlines and web intros) draws in traffic from search.
This is backed up by a varied social media campaign driving traffic deep into the sites and on to our commercial platforms.
I am an experienced content manager with nine years' journalism experience under my belt.
In the last few years I have taken all these skills and applied them to the online environment with great success. Combining creative copy writing and editing with the key principles of SEO I produce compelling copy for users, ranking highly in search, and encouraging repeat visits and click-ons further into the sites.
As a content manager I co-ordinate digital content from editorial teams and train out best practice in areas around SEO and tagging. The core principle is to ensure a steady supply of new, engaging, well-optimised content onto our sites.
I am also responsible for ensuring a quality user experience through placement of site objects, images and links to relevant content and commercial verticals. All this work has seen traffic to my sites grow by more than 300% in the last 18 months. We are now clear market leaders in the region.
The last few years has seen me get involved with numerous significant projects. In 2007 I led the design, build and launch of seven newspaper companion websites, a large complex project involving multiple departments in various locations and a critical first step in the business' move to being a true multimedia operation.
Aside from my technical input, this involved building and maintaining excellent working relationships with all interested parties, the development team, commercial managers, marketing and editorial leaders. The seven sites launched to timetable over a period of two weeks and this gave the perfect platform for us to build a digital business.
Despite being from an editorial background I consider myself to be very commercially-aware. A large part of my current role is working with the advertising director and managers to develop ideas and solutions for pure digital revenue. As part of this I have led the design, build and launch of several commercially-driven editorial platforms, delivering bespoke online solutions for advertisers
